Our Martial Arts Programs

All our classes are two hours long, which allows time for proper warm up, conditioning, drilling basics, teaching new techniques, and reviewing old material. Each class is taught by one of our coaches who have experience training and teaching in China.

Private lessons are also available for individuals who prefer learning in a 1 on 1 setting. Please contact us to set up private lessons.

Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu

Be a part of the Shaolin tradition and undertake the traditional Shaolin training as currently taught in China. Originally from China, our instructors bring their years of experience training and teaching to Scarborough (Toronto), Ontario, Canada. They are pleased to share their knowledge and spread the Shaolin martial tradition to interested students.

Traditional Shaolin Kung Fu training is an excellent way to get into shape and maintain fitness while learning an artform that is over a millennium old. Shaolin Kung Fu has a diverse curriculum containing famous traditional forms, hard qi gong training, weapons training, and self defence techniques.

Children and adults both benefit by improving their cardiovascular fitness, mental focus, flexibility, strength, agility, spirit and discipline.

Contemporary Wushu - Performance and Competitive

Modern Wushu is a new artform derived from various styles of traditional Chinese martial arts. Modern forms capture and refine the aesthetic and athletic aspects of the traditional arts and evolve them into a new discipline for sport and for performance. Traditional and Contemporary forms of wushu share common roots and we believe these disciplines compliment eachother well.

Our coaches have extensive experience training and coaching contemporary wushu in China, as well as experience in competitions and international performance tours such as Terracotta Warriors, Shaolin Wheel of Life, and Shaolin Warriors.

Sanda and Self Defence

Those looking to study martial arts for the combative aspect will benefit from our Sanda/Self Defence program. Sanda (also known as Sanshou) is a contemporary Chinese full contact combat sport which combines striking techniques with wrestling and take downs.

It is a modernized fighting system derived from Chinese martial arts, streamlined into effective combat techniques that are safe to practice. It is a practical system to learn for combat sports and self defence.

Our Sanda class consists of basic drills, hitting and kicking the pads, drilling wresting takedowns, and live sparring. Conditioning and fitness is also paramount to success in combat, therefore Sanda training is also a great way to get in shape while learning how to defend oneself.

Lion Dancing and Drumming

Additionally, some of our students also study lion dance and drumming. This provides an opportunity to learn more about Chinese culture and participate in performances for the community. Lion Dancing and drumming are awesome ways to learn teamwork, co-ordination and rhythm, while spreading good luck and joy to the community.

Apex Demo and Performance Team

Students have the opportunity to be part of our performance team. In the past, the Apex performance team has put on numerous performances and demonstrations both big and small such as the Rogers Lantern Festival at Ontario Place, the Toronto International Dragon Boat Festival, and the Toronto Chinatown Festival - just to name a few. Additionally, our coaches are experienced performers, touring the world in professional stage productions such as Terracotta Warriors and Shaolin Warriors. We have also done volunteer and charity performances.

Participating in performances builds confidence and teaches teamwork, and also give students the opportunity to spread the culture and exhibit their hard work to the public. Being able to handle the pressures of performing on stage in front of large crowds will help build confidence and will provide the necessary skills to combat the stresses of everyday life.

Train in China

Because our instructors have trained and coached in China, we offer our students the unique opportunity to undertake full-time training in one of the martial art schools in China. Whether it be with the rest of the school, or travelling on your own, our academy can help you communicate with a school in China and arrange your training program.
